You may already be a fan of Yeat, whether you know him for his unique style, or for his viral singles “Sorry Bout That,” “Monëy so big,” or “Rich Minion”. You may know him by one of his other aliases: Twizzy, Luh Geeky, Kranky Kranky, or Luh Tonkem. However you know him, Yeat has become one of the biggest names in rap. He has created his own language he uses in his songs and as part of his online persona. It takes a devoted Yeat listener to decipher his lexicon. Yeat himself said, "I don't understand myself, I don't fuck with nobody at all," on his song "Nun id Change”.

To understand Yeat and his music, you must pay close attention to his word choices. I have listened to Yeat’s five most popular studio albums twice and analyzed the lyrics to each song, about 10 hours of listening to Yeat. I watched his few interviews on the internet, I consulted his social media, r/yeat and even #yeatlations on TikTok.  With my newfound expertise in hand, let’s explore the lexicon of Yeat together.

TWIZZY

Your ‘twin’, a close friend, so close you would call them your best friend, your bestie.

Starting with maybe my favorite Yeat word, he uses this to refer to his besties. A very loving and wholesome Yeat word. Always love to see a new word for “best friend”.

Appears in:

  • “Twizzy Rich” - ‘They tryna be my twizzy, you already know ain't no deal (Whole 'lotta cash) / They tryna be my twizzy, you already knowing the deal’

  • “Money Twërk”- ‘My twizzy gon' lose it, pull out the lil' Uzi (bah)’

  • “Goin Back 2 Ella” - ‘Finna call my twizz up, yeah’

Used in a sentence: “This is my twizzy, Bob, we do everything together.”

TONKA

A big car, usually referring to a Mercedes G Wagon or  a Lamborghini Urus, an SUV, a ‘big boy’ car, a fast car, just any big car.

If you imagine those toy construction cars little kids play with and how in public they point to them and say “tonka truck”, there’s something similar going on here. Yeat does the same thing with big, fast cars. Yeat is known to sport a diamond-encrusted chain with a Tonka truck on it.

Appears in:

  • “Luh Gëek” - ‘Big boy Lamb', I'm in the big boy truck (skrr) / I'm in the Tonka, parked outside, sittin' outside in the rain (skrr)’

  • “Split”- ‘Fuck with nobody, I got hella shit on the way, I got my Tonka”

  • “Poppin” - ‘I’m in that Tonka, baby, yeah, come show me love’

  • “Bëttr Off”- “I bought the Tonk’, I bought the truck”

  • “Rokstar”- ‘Got a big body, Tonka, matte black, Forgi’ wheels’

  • “Rav3 p4rty” - ‘I put the swerve in the Tonka

  • “Slamm”- ‘Pull up in that motherfuckin’ Tonka this is no Toyota’

  • “Hëavyweight”- ‘Bitch riding in the Tonka, it’s a heavyweight champion’

(I eventually realized he mentions Tonka too many times to even include in this article)

Used in a sentence: “I will not go to the club unless we pull up in the Tonka.”

GEEK

A very, very high person. “High as a kite,” one might say. Can also be used as a verb to describe the act of becoming intoxicated. First popularized by Atlanta rapper Fabo.

Appears in:

  • “Gëek high” -  ‘Yeah, real geekers' / I just pulled up with the mob, I just pulled up with the team, yeah (yeah, real geekers) / I just pulled up with the mob on me, got a team, yeah (yeah, real geekers) / I hit up Eliantte, I need diamond rings (yeah, real geekers)’

  • “No morë Talk”- ‘I just wanna be geeked in a minute, the sky’

  • “Now” (feat. Luh Geeky)- ‘Yeah, super geeked, I’m on that Sky High feeling’

  • “7 nightz”- ‘I just been geeked up, bitch, uh / Think it's been around seven nights straight (straight) / I just been geeked up, bitch, uh’

  • “How it Go”- ‘How you geek bitch? I’m super geeked (I’m super geeked

  • “Taliban”- ‘I’ma geek always, it’s my life’

  • “Nvr again”- ‘Yeah, we gon' ride around town, lil' geeky life, yeah, we gon' pull up and lurk’

  • “Luh Gëek”- ‘I don’t even know nothin’ on this earth, bitch, I’m geeked out my body, yeah’

Used in a sentence: “I might geek after work today”

(In a recent interview, Yeat himself said his favorite of his made-up words is ‘luh geeky’)

LUH

Comes from the word ‘Lil’, which is slang for ‘Little’, also sometimes is used in place of “the”

Fun fact: Yeat started off his rap career in 2015 with the name ‘Lil Yeat’ and eventually simplified it to just ‘Yeat’ in 2018.

Appears in:

  • “Outsidë (feat. Young Thug)”- ‘Turn this shit up, it’s my song (luh crank)’

  • “Nvr again”- ‘luh geeky life, yeah, we gon’ pull up and lurk’

  • “Rav3 p4rty” (feat. Kranky Kranky)- ‘Bitch we gon’ pull up, luh chonka (luh choka)’

  • “Back up”- ‘I just pulled up then doubled the Mac (Luh Mac)’

  • “Bad bënd / DëMON”- ‘I’m ‘bout the turn up the sheep (Luh turn up, sheep)’

Used in a sentence: “I’m a big dog, you are a luh puppy.”

HONEYBUN

A large sum of money, some speculate $100,000 = 1 honeybun

Appears in:

  • “Nobu”- ‘Honey bun (This is Arena) , honey bun (Go up, Arena, go up, go up) / Honey bun (Go up, go up) ,  honey bun (Ayy yo)’

  • “Bëttr Off”- ‘When you live like this, this shit so fun (honeybun) / When you count that bread, this shit get dough (honeybun, up on the)’

  • “Big Trunk”- ‘Bitch, I got so rich, I got honeybuns

Used in a sentence: “I heard his house cost him 5 honeybuns.”

COMMON SUFFIXES

Another common Yeat-ism heard across his discography is adding an -ey,  -ie, -eezy or an -elly to the end of a word. This is often done to contribute to a song’s rhyme scheme, but can be used in conversation for fun’s sake.

Appears in:

  • “How I Eat”- ‘Fresh, oh, she wan' fuck with a soapie? / Oh, she wan' smoke on this dopie? / Oh, she wan' feel like the Popie?’

  • “Forëally / 4Ly” - ‘Every time they rock them fake ass diamonds, call 'em Cinderelly’ / ‘Yeah, we having the hundons (Foreally, foreally) (Foreally)’

  • “No morë Talk”- ‘All white Margielly-elly on me, I'm a yeti’

  • “Can’t stop it”- ‘Takin’ the yanky, more janky, more banky

HOW TO TALK LIKE YEAT

Here is how to use all of the words in a sentence together:

Original sentence: “I am going to drive a car with my friend to go have fun at a party.”

Yeat translation: “Me and luh twizzy gonna hop in the Tonka, pull up in Margielly-elly like it’s nothin’ honeybun (honeybunny).”

Yeat is always inventing new words and phrases for us to decipher. Each Yeat song is sure to confuse you at one moment or another, but that is the beauty of it all. Now that you have the knowledge of Yeat’s lexicon, you, too, can begin to better understand Yeat’s music.
